  • Barn Owl Cabins are ideal for walkers on the West Highland Way, cyclists using National Cycle Route 7 or the John Muir Way, and walkers starting the Rob Roy Way in Drymen. The cabins are especially well suited to solo travellers, couples and friends who are happy with a bunk-bed layout and value comfort, warmth and a quiet countryside setting after a day outdoors. We’re also dog friendly, which makes us popular with walkers travelling with their four-legged companions.

  • The cabins are less than a five-minute walk from the West Highland Way. It’s a short, easy detour off the trail, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful night’s rest before rejoining the route the following morning. Click here to see a map and directions.

  • Drymen village is around a one-mile walk, which takes less than 10 minutes. You’ll find pubs, cafés, a bakery and deli, a small supermarket, chemist and other useful amenities there — perfect for dinner, breakfast, packed lunches or restocking supplies.

  • Yes, dogs are very welcome. We provide a cosy “toastie bed” for your dog, and the surrounding countryside and woodland paths are ideal for short walks and leg stretches. We simply ask that dogs are kept under control and not left unattended in the cabin.

  • Yes, breakfast and packed lunches are available by pre-order for an additional cost. These must be arranged in advance of your stay. Alternatively, Drymen village has an excellent bakery, deli and shops where you can stock up before heading back onto the trail.

  • No. Many of our guests arrive on foot or by bike. The cabins are within walking distance of Drymen village, the West Highland Way, and local bus connections. A car is not essential to enjoy your stay.

  • Yes, there is parking available on site for guests who arrive by car.

  • If you’re looking for privacy, peace and a countryside setting, Barn Owl Cabins offer a different experience from traditional B&Bs or dorm-style accommodation. You’ll have your own self-contained cabin, a private bathroom, space to dry gear, and the freedom to come and go as you please — all just outside the village, but without the noise of a busy main road.

  • Yes, Wi-Fi is available in the cabins.

  • Check-in is from 16:00, allowing us time to prepare the cabin properly for your arrival. Check-out is by 10:00 on your departure day.

  • National Cycle Route 7 and the John Muir Way both pass through Drymen and are around one mile from the cabins. This makes Barn Owl Cabins a convenient stop for cyclists and walkers using these long-distance routes.

  • Each cabin includes comfortable bunk beds with deep feather duvets, thick insulation, electric-stove heating and a modern private bathroom. You’ll also find a fold-down table and chairs, hanging space, a drying pulley for wet clothes, boot trays, towels, crockery and cutlery for two, and Wi-Fi. Everything is designed to make your stay comfortable and practical after a day on the trail.

  • Yes. The cabins are well insulated and heated, making them cosy and comfortable whatever the weather decides to do. Many guests comment on how warm and snug they feel, especially after arriving damp or tired from a long walk.

  • Yes. Each cabin includes a drying pulley and hanging space for wet clothing, along with boot trays to keep muddy footwear contained. These small details make a big difference for walkers and cyclists arriving after rain.

  • Yes, bedding and towels are provided for all guests. The beds are made up for your arrival, so you can settle straight in.

  • A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your stay. The remaining balance is charged automatically 7 days before arrival.

    Cancellations within 7 days of arrival are non-refundable. We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak walking season.

  • The cabins sit in a peaceful countryside and woodland setting. Deer are often seen roaming nearby, pine martins pass through the trees, and barn owls can be spotted hunting at dusk. It’s a quiet, natural environment that many guests find deeply relaxing.

  • Of course, we would be delighted if you wish to spend some time at the cabins. They are primarily designed for short stays, particularly for walkers and cyclists breaking their journey. However, they also work well as a peaceful base for a short countryside break if you’re exploring Drymen, Loch Lomond and the surrounding area.
