Barn Owl Cabins
Sustainability: Caring for the Place We Share
We’re proud to be located within Scotland’s first National Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, a landscape that feels special not just for its scenery, but also for how carefully it’s protected.
From the outset, the cabins were created with a clear purpose: to help people explore the area on foot and by bike, reducing reliance on cars and easing pressure on a sensitive and much-loved environment. Being able to step straight onto nearby paths and trails is part of that thinking — slower, more thoughtful travel that fits the place rather than overwhelms it.
When designing and building the cabins, great care was taken to protect the peaceful, tranquil setting in which they sit. This is a place shaped by nature, home to an abundance of wildlife, and the aim was always to work with the landscape rather than impose on it. The cabins sit quietly in their surroundings, designed to blend into the environment and minimise their impact on the wider setting.
Wildlife regularly passes through the area, from deer moving at dawn and dusk to pine martens and barn owls. We respect that this is their home first and ask guests to enjoy these moments from a distance, allowing animals to move freely and undisturbed. Often, it’s these quiet, fleeting encounters that become the most memorable part of a stay.
Behind the scenes, simple but effective measures help reduce our footprint while maintaining comfort. Good insulation, efficient heating, recycling, and responsible waste management all help keep energy use and waste to a minimum. The aim is to offer a warm, comfortable place to rest at the end of a day on the trail, without excess and without compromising the National Park's values.
We also encourage guests to support the local organisations that help care for this landscape and its communities. These include the West Highland Way Trust, Drymen Community Development Trust, and Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs. You’ll find details in the cabins about how to support these charities, all of which play an important role in protecting paths, places and people across the area.
